The exhibition at La Conserva’s Space 3 includes five distinct bodies of Minter’s work offering one of the most complete readings of Minter’s output. The photographic series Coral Ridge Towers, taken in 1969 and concealed from public view by the artist’s own decision for over three decades, shows the decline of a woman (her mother) addicted to sleeping pills over the course of a weekend — a ragged ghost of a woman stubbornly clinging to, but inevitably failing to achieve Hollywood beauty standards. Kick Silver, her first wallpaper series covers two enormous cubes leading to the projection of Green Pink Caviar at the far end of the gallery. In addition, the Bubble painting series and the Pamela Anderson photographic series of Pamela Anderson is also on display.

GREEN PINK CAVIAR AT SALON 94

Green Pink Caviar
New Photographs and Paintings by Marilyn Minter
Salon 94 Freemans
April 28 - June 13

Marilyn Minter presented monumental paintings alongside large-scale photographs for her second solo exhibition at Salon 94, Green Pink Caviar. With extreme close ups of tattooed and freckled skin, mouths blowing bubbles, and tongues licking candy, Minter continued her exploration of the underbelly of glamour, provocatively undermining our cultural taste for the clean and flawless.

Minter’s striking 15-foot painting, Pop Rocks, her largest to date, explores the idea of painting with the tongue. The image was inspired by a photo shoot where Minter directed her models to lick brightly colored candies while she shot photos from underneath a glass plate. The models' tongues mixed the colorful sugar with saliva, slurping and pushing color across the glass surface to simulate painting. The results of these action paintings are featured in two photographs, Gimmie and Chewing Pink, in which the models seem to regurgitate their own makeup.

GREEN PINK CAVIAR THE TRAILER AT SUNSHINE CINEMA

Midnight Screenings
April 24 - June 13
Playfully emulating movie advertising, Marilyn Minter created a 60-second trailer that played before midnight showings at Sunshine Cinema throughout the duration of her solo exhibition, Green Pink Caviar (2009), at Salon 94. This trailer continues Minter’s boundary-blurring explorations between art and advertising, which began in 1989 when she advertised her exhibition, 100 Food Porn, with a 30-second commercial that aired during Late Night with David Letterman, The Arsenio Hall Show, and Nightline. In 2006, concurrent with her participation in The Whitney Biennial, Minter partnered with Creative Time to exhibit three of her photographs on giant billboards that hung over Chelsea.

As part of Creative Times's ongoing program of video art, At 44 1/2, shown on MTV’s gilded, outdoor, HD billboard in Times Square, Marilyn Minter curated an exhibition that investigates what she calls “the pathology of glamour." Chewing Color strikes a delicate balance between beauty and disgust with Patty Chang’s Fan Dance (2003), Kate Gilmore’s Star Bright, Star Might (2007), and Marilyn Minter’s Green Pink Caviar (2009).
